Saturday, October 2, 2021

We're heading to New
Wilmington, PA to enjoy quiet Amish country roads and scenery. All rides begin and end at Marti Park, only an hour drive from Pittsburgh.

Our 6th annual Fall Foliage ride promises to be better than ever!

~ This event is RAIN or SHINE ~

Members can log into their website account to register and non-members can join our club and activate their own account to register themselves too.

Registration Fee:         $20 through Sunday, September 12
Late Registration Fee: $25 September 13 - September 20

Your registration fee includes: Hot cider and coffee, a hot lunch catered by Aulizio's catering (expanded menu again this year with your choice of whole wheat pasta or vegan chili with brown rice and a salad!), 5 routes including GPS files and cue sheets; and rest stop with riding hydration and nutrition.

When you check-in at the event, you will receive an event wristband. To receive your lunch and other event support, you must have your wristband on.

Please note that the consumption of alcoholic beverages in not permitted in Marti Park.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE:  Monday, September 20th

We need help with registration check-in, serving lunch, and cleaning up.   We have multiple serving times so you can still eat and ride!

To volunteer, click the volunteer button on the right. Thank you in advance for assisting us.

All five routes available to riders begin and end at Marti Park, where water, other beverages, and riding nutrition, as well as restrooms, will be available (and, of course, you can access your vehicle for additional supplies). All routes are 26 miles or less, so a SAG vehicle will not be driving these routes.  If you experience a bike failure that prevents you from finishing one of the routes, a vehicle will be available to pick you and your bike up at your location and return you to Marti Park. All riders should have the necessary equipment and knowledge to change a flat tire (or make sure you're riding with someone who does), a SAG vehicle will not be available for this purpose!

You and your riding partner(s) decide when to start!

  • The check-in table will be staffed between: 8:00 - 10:00 AM.
    • You will be given a wrist band, which is required for food & drinks!
  • Riders going longer distances and starting before 8:00:  If you must leave before 8:00 please find Ray or Doug to check you in and obtain your wristband after your first loop. Please note that coffee and hot cider will not be available prior to 8:00.
  • Starting later?  Please find Ray or Doug to check you in and obtain your wristband.
  • No one rides alone!  At least one riding partner is required.  Link up with others during registration or coordinate your start time in advance.
  • There will not be a ride briefing or mass start this year.  Details will be provided in the pre-ride email that all participants will receive.

Lunch will be served between 11:30 - 2:00 PM. Try to end one of your routes during that time if you want lunch. You are free to continue riding additional routes after lunch, we have the pavilion all day, but support services will end at 4 PM.

ALL routes will begin and end at Marti Park. Thus, you can ride a route, return to our pavilion to replenish your water and energy, perhaps enjoying a hot cup of cider or coffee, and head out on another route.

There are four "longer" routes ranging from 24-26 miles each, with between 1,300 and 1,750 feet of elevation gain in each route.  There is a shorter route of 15 miles, with 855 feet of gain. Several routes have longer sections of smooth roads with good shoulders, but all routes will take you on back country roads through farmlands and Amish country. None of the routes include dirt or gravel roads, but be aware that you may experience some gravel and dirt on the roads, especially near farm barns, as well as occasional "horse exhaust." As you might expect, several of the routes have some overlap, for example, 3 of the routes take you through the covered one-lane bridge you see on the right before going in different directions. In sum, you can choose to ride as many or few routes as you want, and as time and daylight permits. It's a tall order given the conditions, but if you do them all you could log 115.6 miles and do 7,246 feet of elevation gain!

There are no formal ride leaders for this event. However, you are required to ride with at least one other rider!
It is highly recommended that at least one rider in your group has downloaded the routes to their cycling computer and can do GPS navigation.

One lane bridge

Active links for download of all 5 routes
will be emailed to all those who preregister.

Make it a Day Trip or a Weekend Away!

Following the event, there are numerous brewery, winery, and restaurant options nearby. New Wilmington (only a 5 minute drive away!) and the town of Volant are great places to visit.  There are a also number of motels and B&Bs close by. Marti Park is only a 1-hour drive from Pittsburgh.
